2011 saw Ibanez begin with a BANG!  A new model lineup appeared with much anticipation and fanfare--the Premium.  Born from the legacy of the J Customs, the Premiums promised to be a step up from the typical RG series and sport high-end features such as quilted maple tops and ball-ended frets.  The Premiums were brought to life in the Indonesian Jawa Timur factory under the watchful eyes of the J Custom technicians.  The whole idea of these new beauties, was to provide J Custom quality and features without the J Custom price tag. Every aspect of these new guitars had to be perfect and live up to expectations.  The US market got the RG920QM and RG920BK, while the rest of the world got the RG870QMZ.  They are almost identical, with the exception of the pickup configuration and models.  The RG920QM has a humbucker-humbucker configuration, while the RG870QMZ has the more common humbucker-single coil-humbucker configuration.  The RG920QM has DiMarzio/IBZ pickups and the RG870QMZ has CAP-VM pickups.  The availables colors are truly stunning!  We get to choose between: High Voltage Violet (HVV), Red Desert (RDT), Cobalt Blue Surge (CBE), Black Ice (BI) and Liquid Inferno (LI). The RG920BK is just what it sounds like--a solid black finish without the quilted maple top.  The RG870QMZ models are available in the same colors except Cobalt Blue Surge and Liquid Inferno, which are not offered.  However, the RG870QMZ is available in one color that the RG920QM is not--Blazing Dusk (BDK).  Here's a nice shot of all colors available:
